Naramachi is the old town which is located to the south of Nara Park. Preserved in Naramachi are the old town houses with charming lattice windows. You can enjoy the serene atmosphere with a complicated layout of alleys with the help of guides familiar with the area.

Our "Afternoon Old Town Stroll" will give you an opportunity to explore the mysterious town of a maze full of nostalgia.
Through the eyes of the Japanese, your guide will show you "the best of Naramachi" where good, old, traditional Nara is still preserved: Geisha District, Hall of Koshin Belief, Example of a machiya house (old merchant house), Imanishi Sake Brewery, Ruins of Five-storied Pagoda, Daijoin Garden, Local Temples and Shrines etc.) As you stroll through the nostalgic area, you can take a rest with your choice of tea or coffee at a typical machiya-style cafe or call into a long-established local sake shop and taste several kinds of sake (Japanese rice wine), upon your request. What awaits you in the town is beyond description! IMPORTANT NOTICE: This tour runs everyday on reservation basis except for Mondays, since many spots are closed on Monday in Naramachi. |
