Nishinokyo is an unusual area where two of the great ancient Buddhist temples---of strong Chiniese influence---are located in a rural Japanese setting. Registered as World Heritage Sites, a visit to these two great temples will give you a great opportunity to catch a glimpse of ancient Japan from the early 8th century.
